The carriage numbers were hurriedly taken at the time so may not be accurate. Hugh Llewelyn.
The signalman from the quaintly named Chaffers Siding Signalbox is handing the token to the driver of the 08.31 Preston to Colne train on 09/06/1984. The train is lead by 53463, a Class 104 DMBS in all over rail blue livery, the trailing vehicle is 52041, a Class 108 DMSL in Blue/Grey livery. Geoff Dowling.
On Saturday 9th November 1985 a Blackpool North service awaits departure from Manchester Victoria. Rob's notes record this as 53463+53530+51575+59581+51584, however I'm not too sure about 53530 as that seems never to have been parted from its original partner 53478. Photo by the late Rob Simpson. There's a storm brewing over Strangeways, viewed from Manchester Victoria station looking towards the Boddington's Brewery. Birmingham R C & W Co. Class 104 unit No.53463 and Swindon Class 120 unit No.51581 face each other in the platform on 17th February 1986. Gordon Edgar.
A Class 104 DMU (noted as M50515 + M59171 + M50463) in Manchester (Victoria) on a Wigan via Swinton service, 07/78. Hugh Llewelyn.
A busy scene at York on 5th June 1985, as passengers hurry along the platform to board a gurgling four-car DMU with Newton Heath-allocated hybrid Class 104 (DMBS) 53463 & Class 108 (DMCL) 52041 leading the formation. The driver is at the head of the 'convoy' of passengers, with his polystyrene cup of British Rail tea and the guard unloads parcels from the luggage area of the Class 104. Standing alongside is Hull Botanic Gardens-allocated Class 108 (DTCL) 54207. Gordon Edgar.
