Class 114 DMU at Wadsley Bridge

26th May 1987

The LCGB South Yorkshireman railtour during the photo stop at Wadsley Bridge on 26 May 1987. I gather it was supposed to be two 114s, but we got a 114 (54003 + 53012) and a 111 (78964 + 78714). I recall reading later that the 114 had been stored (u) at Lincoln before the tour, which the website pages confirm. The unit wasn't in the best of health as its engines cut out several times during the day, leaving the 111 to do all the work. Even so, even though we left Sheffield 26 minutes late, we got back just 1 minute late! I've never been sure if the 114 was taken out of store specially for the tour. Andrew Phillips.
