A one-off livery variation: Met Cam 101692, comprising vehicles 53253 and 53170, was painted into a variation of Caledonian Blue with red and yellow stripes plus Strathclyde branding to commemorate the start of Motherwell to Cumbernauld services in May 1996. The attractive unit subsequently moved to Longsight depot for operation in the Manchester area; it is pictured at Piccadilly, with New Mills Central on the destination board, on 9 February 2001.
