26th June 1966

Two Derby triple-sets (later Class 107) arrive into St Enoch station on the last day of operation on June 26, 1966. The leading power car has a set number applied under the drivers window, June 1966 was the month they were introduced to the Glasgow Division. This is set 122, sets 117 to 133 were the number series initially allocated to the Corkerhill 107s. Corriebob.

Two Derby Heavyweight three-car sets (later Class 107s) at Rutherglen, circa early 1970s, DMBS Sc51993 closest. The destination blind is displaying Hillington, but is on the wrong line and going in the wrong direction, so it is thought to be heading to Hamilton depot after having worked a morning “Workers Special” to Hillington West, which serves a large industrial estate. A Class 107 DMU heads away from Edinburgh Waverley through Princes Street Gardens at the start of its journey to Glasgow Central, circa early/mid 1970s. There is a set number under the drivers cab window, it seems to read as 129. Stuart Mackay Collection.

27th August 1977

At Fairlie (High) station on 27 August 1977 Class 107 DMU sets 131 and 138 are working the 17.55 Largs to Glasgow train. On the left is a crane used for transferring nuclear fuel flasks from road to rail (it was labelled safe working load 53t 6cwt). This work would later be transferred to Hunterston Causeway Sidings on the low level branch. Tom Burnham.

Living in Paisley at the time I took a day out one Saturday to film the Ayr (formerly Hamilton based) Derby's as we called them on the Paisley Canal line and Kilmacolm branch. Why I did this in December and not when the weather was better I'll never know! Leaving it to the last minute I suppose. Alistair Ness.

12th May 1981

Set 135 at Muirhouse South Junction, heading for Glasgow Central on the 10:12 from East Kilbride. The former Glasgow St Enoch line (St Enoch station closed in 1966) is on the right. The line on the left is the Cathcart Circle, electrified in 1962. The large building in the distance is the former Glasgow Corporation Tramway Works (Coplawhill). By that time it was the Transport Museum. However, it relocated to Kelvin Hall in 1987, only to further relocate to a new purpose built ‘Riverside Museum’ in 2011. Coplawhill Works is still extant as the ‘The Tramway Theatre’ but the shed nearest the railway was demolished and a Gurdwara has been constructed. Muirhouse South was previously known as Strathbungo Junction and the former Strathbungo station, closed in 1962, is immediately behind the camera. Tuesday 12 May 1981. alicia hartman.
