E56042 + E50038 New Holland Pier on April 18, 1981. A shame the ferry wasn't allowed to continue once the Humber Bridge was built. It would probably be still well used by train passengers between Hull and North Lincolnshire John Carter.

The 49-strong fleet of Class 114 2-car DMUs spent most of their working lives based at Lincoln depot. Although a local type with standard bus seating, they had a wide sphere of operation in Eastern England, covering Lincolnshire, Humberside, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire, but regularly worked deeper into West / North Yorkshire, reaching Darlington in the north and Peterborough in the south. They often worked into Leeds on services to / from Sheffield, and here, 53046 & 54042 are sen at City station with a Sheffield service on 14/06/1987. Graeme Phillips Collection.

Having travelled down the 1375ft long Pier from New Holland Pier Head, A Class 114 2-Car DMU formed of E56043 & E50001 in refurbished livery, stands at New Holland Town with a service to Cleethorpes on Sunday 28th September 1980. With the opening of the Humber Suspension Bridge in June 1981, and the subsequent withdrawal of the ferry service from New Holland Pier to Hull, the stations and the pier were all closed on June 24th 1981. The linkspan connecting the station to the ferry landing stage can be seen to the right of the station building. A Morris Minor and a Mark 3 Ford Cortina are parked behind the buffer stops.
