One of Tyseley's Class 116 dmus (set TS500, 50061 and presumably 59000 + 50092) is heading for Longbridge on 24/02/1981. The train is about to pass under Raddlebarn Road bridge in Selly Oak, Birmingham. Geoff Dowling.

With few passengers alighting a Derby suburban triple DMU in green livery calls at Wednesbury (Central) on it's way to Birmingham Snow Hill. Just off the platform (Wolverhampton end) is the signal box, on the platform is a very solid concrete 'gallows' pattern lamp, behind that is an early Lambretta scooter with individual seats rather than a dual seat Behind the opposite platform is the exchange sidings, a pannier tank can be seen waiting with a train, that platform had a sturdy brick built waiting room. The station was opened in 1854, today the site is occupied by the Midland Metro Wednesbury Great Western Street stop. Image taken by Peter Shoesmith 12/12/1963. Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.

Oldbury and Langley Green station on 3rd September 1966 had a lot of railway interest. Passing through with a Birmingham Snow Hill bound train is a Derby built class 116 in green livery. The station dated from 1885 as did the branch to Oldbury (right). The GWR water tower still has a residue of water pouring from the bag which suggests that a steam loco shunting at Langley Green yard had recently had a top-up. The signal box is on the platform end and had steps to the back so that the single line token for the Oldbury branch could be exchanged (this practise continued long after passenger services ceased because the branch gave access to a chemical works), behind the box is the signalman's Raleigh moped. To the far left is the distinctive roof of Langley Green Maltings, still extant but badly burnt after a fire, the building is listed. Image taken by Peter Shoesmith. Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.

On a bright but bitterly cold winter's morning a Tyseley class 116 is about to stop at Henley in Arden. The train is the 11.05 Birmingham Moor Street to Stratford upon Avon and the unit is in the short-lived white and blue livery. Apart from the lower aspect signals that have been replaced by upper aspect Henley looks like a Great Western branch line station with it's original nameboard in place. All is changing now the signals and box went some time ago but at this time the bridge is being replaced and new lifts are being installed, the nameboard is a casualty of this work. The fine station buildings behind the photographer stand empty and boarded up with a ticket machine replacing station staff. 31/12/1979. Geoff Dowling.

The original Bloxwich Station was closed on the 18th January 1965 under the Beeching plan. Demolition soon followed, the elegant cast iron columns and canopy being lost forever. The new station is not on this site and is one of the modern functional design. In Peter's picture on a grey and sunless 27th March 1964 an unidentified G2A is approaching the camera whilst a Metro-Cammell 2 car DMU is on a service to Rugeley. Image taken by Peter Shoesmith. Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.

Reflection at Windmill End. At work on an early evening service from Old Hill to Dudley was this original liveried Gloucester class 122 single car unit on 31st August 1962. The view was taken from Springfield Road on the ouskirts of Netherton and it also shows a sunken narrow boat on the Dudley canal. At the time of the photograph the station was only 5 years old, a 'modern' replacement for the previous generations of wooden shelter, given the lonely location and proximity to the canal towpath the station proved irresistible to vandals. The stations on this line all closed 15th June 1964. Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.

In this undated picture Alvechurch station presents a lovely summer rural aspect. The Station Master is in full uniform and has a smile for the alighting passengers, the old station nameboard is in good condition as are the buildings. Patiently waiting for departure time for Birmingham is a Gloucester RC&W class 100, the driver's approach to the uniform is less formal the the station master. Alvechurch is still open and thriving being part of the Cross City line to Redditch, it is now electrified, but the crossing to the fields and footpath (in front of the train) is still very much used by walkers. The streak in the sky is a bird, it was there, it stays. Geoff Dowling and John Whitehouse Collection.
