DMU Operations: London Midland Region

Harrow - Belmont

Harrow - Belmont route diagram

The ACV lightweight diesel train was tested on the 1 ¼ mile on several occasions in 1954: in June; 1st to 6th September; and was back on 18 October.

Appearances continued through 1955 as the experimental set was taken into BR stock allocated to Watford Junction (1C) and more vehicles were delivered. These railcars also worked the St Albans branch. The Harrow branch only formally switched to diesel working with the delivery of the final ACV set in August 1957, although reversion to steam was not unusual due to the unreliability of the railcars.

Four Park Royal sets were transferred to Watford Junction in December 1958 and these would also become regulars on the line.

The Belmont branch closed on the 5th October 1964, on the last day of the service on the 3rd M50413/56169 were in operation.
