DMU Operations: North Eastern Region


Leeds - Wakefield - Barnsley - Sheffield

This route known as the Hallam Line would cross from North Eastern territory at the Leeds end onto Eastern Region lines at the Sheffield end at Barnsley.

The images show a variety of mainly Leeds allocated DMUs working the service: 108s, 110s, 111s and 114s.

The timetables also included Leeds - Barnsley and Barnsley - Sheffield services.

A five-Car DMU formation passing Engine Shed Junction, Leeds, in 1960 with a three-car Rolls-Royce powered Met-Camm on the rear. I think the trains destination is Barnsley, as B8 was the code for Class 2 train between Leeds and Barnsley via Wakefield. Keith Long.
